Joe Mazzulla’s reaction to new Celtics jerseys is perfectly Joe Mazzulla

BOSTON — The Boston Celtics are one of the most historic franchises in the history of the NBA. In the history of sports, really. But even they will be participating in the league’s yearly tradition of having new jerseys, dubbed the “City Editions.” While this year’s versions weren’t necessarily a fan-favorite, they will still be worn, regardless.
The Celtics will debut their new jerseys on Saturday night against the Toronto Raptors, and they will wear them at various points throughout the season. While some fans didn’t love the new style of apparel, others weren’t too bothered. Head coach Joe Mazzulla was asked about the jerseys before the game against Toronto.
His reaction was exactly what you’d expect.
Mazzulla doesn't care about jerseys
When asked if he likes the jerseys, Mazzulla offered a simple, deadpan response: “Yeah, they’re nice.”
Mazzulla didn’t crack a smile. He didn’t offer any extra details. Just a simple, straightforward response likely designed to get the question over with. But the head coach was pressed for details.
Q: “What do you like about them?”
A: “Uh, they say Celtics on them.”
As per usual, all Mazzulla cares about basketball. He probably didn’t even know the Celtics were going to be wearing different jerseys than usual until the apparel was placed in front of him. He just wants to win games and play Celtics basketball.
And the most important part about the uniform, in his eyes, is that it reps the team he coaches. Everything else is useless.
Celtics PR sent out a press release offering some details on the new uniforms:
“The 2024-2025 Boston Celtics City Edition uniform, which features the Celtics’ new jersey patch partner, Amica Mutual Insurance, is the second chapter of a multiple season story arc. While the previous season’s uniform celebrated the origin of the game in Springfield, MA, this year’s on-court collection was designed to highlight its evolution. The introduction of Action Green mixed with the ever-popular black base anchors this look.
“Subtle design details, such as the weave pattern on the uniform’s side panels, tie the past iteration to the future iteration-truly bridging the gap. The Celtics will wear this year’s City Edition uniform for select games throughout the season, the first time being on Saturday, November 16 against the Toronto Raptors.”
Regardless of the details, Mazzulla only cares about the basketball being played on the floor, and his response to the new threads was perfectly him. It’s everything fans should expect from their coach at this point, and in the best way possible.
