12 Boston Celtics that never played a single minute
By Tyler Watts
1. Desmond Bane
The Celtics drafted Desmond Bane with the 30th overall pick in 2020. They acquired the selection from the Suns in 2019 for the 24th overall pick and Aron Baynes. Boston technically made the pick, but they had a draft night deal worked out with the Grizzlies and Trail Blazers. Bane went to Memphis as the Celtics dumped Enes Kanter for two second-round picks.
Boston better nail those picks because Bane will be an All-Star. The 25-year-old averaged 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.0 steal in 31.7 minutes per game last season. He shot over 40 percent from 3-point range for the third straight year and is proving to be the two-way wing every team desires.
Bane’s career is just beginning, but trading him was a mistake. The Celtics have Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, but putting Desmond Bane next to that duo would give Boston the best wing group in the world. Bane is already an elite scorer and is just entering his prime. The Grizzlies certainly nailed the selection.
The Boston Celtics have acquired countless talented players over the years, and some of them never saw the floor. Who will be next to make this list? Stay tuned to find out.
