The Boston Celtics squandered a key opportunity in Game 5 at home against the Philadelphia 76ers, falling behind 3-2 in the second round for the second time in as many seasons.
That’s right, Boston was in this same spot in the 2021-22 season against the Milwaukee Bucks, but it came back to win Game 6 and 7 to win the series.
While losing Game 5 was not ideal for Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and company, Celtics fans should be encouraged by a trend surrounding former Celtics and current Philadelphia head coach Doc Rivers.
There isn’t a coach in NBA playoff history who has blown more leads than Rivers, and he’s blown a series advantage in two of the last three seasons.
Does the Doc choke strike again in this series? Based on the odds for Game 6, and the series, Celtics fans should be encouraged.
Celtics vs. Sixers updated series odds
With the Sixers favored to win the series at -195 odds, they are given an implied probability of 66.1 percent to win the series.
While that may be a cause for concern for Celtics, fans, I actually think this is a great time to jump on Boston at plus money.
Why? Boston is favored in Game 6 on the road!
Celtics vs. Sixers odds, spread and total for Game 6
If oddsmakers expect Boston to win Game 6, that means the series is going to come down to a Game 7, where the Celtics will likely be favored again.
Rivers’ history shows that no lead is safe for Philly, and all series long Vegas has favored Boston, even after losses. It may not seem like a great situation for the Celtics, but from a betting perspective this is the best value you’re going to find on this team this season.
