The Boston Celtics take on the Cavaliers for the final time during the 2022-23 season in Cleveland on Monday, January 6 in what will be the backend of a back-to-back where the first night’s game went to double overtime.

Sunday night’s loss to the Knicks was brutal for several reasons, perhaps the worst of the bunch being that New York may actually be a team worth taking seriously come the Eastern Conference playoffs. Immanuel Quickley dropped 38 and the player he was spot-starting in place of, Jalen Brunson, is the Knicks’ best player. Outlasting the defending champion on their homecourt is a major statement. Another reason, though, is how depleted the Cs may be in Cleveland.

The season still has plenty of time left, but the Bucks are pulling away in the standings. Another loss to the Cavs, which would give the Celtics the season series loss, would be another blow in what has been a rough post-All-Star break run for Boston.

Boston Celtics vs Cleveland Cavaliers Prediction

Boston is in a full-blown malaise as losers of three of their last four and Al Horford, Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown all played over 45 minutes against the Knicks on March 5 — meaning they can be added to the injury report closer to gametime.

Cleveland has been inconsistent this season and has lost four of its last six games. Still, the Cavs have more momentum and have a big frontcourt capable of praying on Celtics pivots with the potential absences of Horford and Williams. A rough not could be in store tonight for Boston.
