C&C surprisingly tabs 2 point guards with combined 8 All-Star appearances as Boston Celtics buyout targets
Chowder and Champions’ Brian Foisy believes the Boston Celtics need to be more active in the buyout market, and he had a surprising list of players the team should pursue before the March 1 buyout deadline.
Foisy listed frequently linked wing Will Barton as an option. He also named Serge Ibaka as an option, though the acquisition of Mike Muscala at the trade deadline may have negated the need for such a signing.
But it was the inclusion of two point guards with eight All-Star nods between them whose careers have fallen on hard times that was most surprising of the Chowder and Champions writer’s list of Boston Celtics buyout targets:
"“…from a frontcourt perspective, the Celtics could still use depth, especially in a series against Embiid or Giannis, where those big men will get calls. You need an expendable old guy who can give you four fouls or even foul out.”“Names like Serge Ibaka, Will Barton, or John Wall could fit the bill on many team needs as an end of the bench veteran.”“If you want to get crazy, maybe try to get the ball rolling on a Derrick Rose signing if he gets bought out by the Knicks.”"
The Boston Celtics already have the locker room veterans they need
The Houdini isn’t seeing eye to eye with Foisy regarding bringing on another point guard — especially one with a history of having issues with his employers, which Derrick Rose and John Wall both are.
Rose famously disappeared during the 2016-17 season during his first go-round with the Knicks, and he was even rumored to have considered retirement during his time in both New York and Cleveland.
Wall recently spoke ill of the Rockets, who he sat out games for instead of playing before being traded back to Houston in a humorous twist of fate. Of course, he was waived before ever being let back in that locker room.
Considering both aren’t even considered useful enough not to be bought out, it’d be a massive gamble to bring either one of them onboard. The Boston Celtics already have positive locker room presences in veterans like Blake Griffin and Muscala.
