Nia Long was unhappy about the way the Boston Celtics handled the Ime Udoka infidelity (with a coworker) situation as an organization, and recently called out the Cs in a sit-down interview with Clover Hope of The Cut.

“The Celtics made a choice to make my family business public, and I don’t understand why,” Long said to Hope while dining together at an NYC restaurant. “It could’ve all been handled internally. I do understand why, but I can’t talk about it. Maybe one day I will. You know, fear drives stupidity, and I’ll leave that right there. I’ve learned that I’m stronger than I ever thought I was.”

BSS’ Dan Greenberg didn’t see her criticism as completely valid given the fact that we don’t know all the specifics about the affair — other than the fact that the woman he had an intimate relationship with was a Danny Ainge hire:

The Boston Celtics have a choice at the end of the 2022-23 season

Still, we have not seen the Boston Celtics name Joe Mazzulla head coach of the team on a permanent basis. Until they do, the idea of Udoka returning after falling two games short of an NBA Championship in his lone season in charge is one that holds weight. Remember, he was only suspended and never fired.

Mazzulla would assuredly shed the interim label with Banner 18, but if the team falls well short in the postseason for whatever reason, the Udoka conversation would surely spark back up after the Nets nearly hired him back before Jacque Vaughn shed his own interim label in Brooklyn.

If Mazzulla doesn’t end up being the permanent head coach, there’s surely a franchise out there that would be willing to do so instead. Boston has a good problem with two qualified coaches they can roll with moving forward.
