For those hoping that the Boston Celtics would be reuniting with former wing and current Chicago Bull Javonte Green — and his good friend Jayson Tatum is certainly among that group — simmer those hopes right down.

According to MassLive’s Brian Robb, a reunion between the Celtics and Green is unlikely at this point due to a recent arthroscopic debridement of his right knee he underwent on Wednesday, January 11.

In answering a question from a reader in his latest Boston Celtics mailbag about whether the Cs would consider packaging Justin Jackson and a second-round pick for Green, Robb shut down the possibility of a second run in Beantown for the undrafted Radford product:

"“If the team finds an upgrade on (Justin Jackson) at the trade deadline or the buyout market, they will be able to move his salary elsewhere. Green would be a nice fit but he just underwent knee surgery that will keep him out for a month so doubtful that he’s on the radar at this point.”"

Alternatives to Javonte Green for the Boston Celtics on the trade market

There seemed to be legitimate traction for Javonte Green once again donning the color of his namesake, but it doesn’t appear as though the 29-year-old is likely to be re-joining his first NBA team in time for what could be its most righteous run for Banner 18 since the ‘big 3’ era. An untimely injury may have taken away his ability to be anything more than salary fodder considering the questions surrounding his availability for the rest of the season.

In his stead, though, there are plenty of other options on the trade market for Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens and co. to explore. One intriguing name is Kenrich Williams, who was one of NBC Sports Boston’s suggestions in a recent piece from Chris Forsberg. Williams went for 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists in 24 minutes during the Oklahoma City Thunder’s recent 150-117 thrashing of the Cs, and he knocked down 2/3 3-pointers in the process. On the season, he has a 55/44/46 split, and while his free-throw percentage could stand to significantly improve, Williams could be an under-the-radar get for cheap that could possibly move the needle during a pivotal postseason game.

Other options include Cam Reddish, Rudy Gay, and Justin Holiday. Of the bunch, Reddish has the highest ceiling while Gay brings the most experience. It’s on Stevens to decide if any of the aforementioned names would be worth spending more in luxury tax dollars, even if owner Wyc Grousbeck blessed spending whatever it takes to win.
