The Boston Celtics no longer have a nearly double-digit winning streak, so with weaknesses being displayed in their latest loss, there could be value on the trade market should the team pursue a deal.

Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley concocted a list of potential trade targets for the Cs, and to the surprise of no one, the center position is the spot on the floor the B/R writer focused on in his piece.

Jakob Poeltl is the cover star of the article and the first (and most prominent) name on Buckley’s list. That comes in the wake of Brian Windhorst stating on the latest episode of The Hoop Collective that ‘the name that has come up that people have speculated has been Jakob Poeltl from the Spurs,’ when speaking of the Boston Celtics and their potential pursuit of another big.

Also included by Buckley are former Cs combo big Kelly Olynyk, a current member of the Utah Jazz, of which former Boston GM Danny Ainge now runs as VP, and sharpshooting wing Alec Burks of the Detroit Pistons.

Who the Boston Celtics should pursue of the bunch

Believe it or not, it’s the wing, Alec Burks, that could give the Boston Celtics the most value down the stretch of the 2022-23 season. Jakob Poeltl is the biggest difference-maker of the bunch, but he wouldn’t get big minutes once Robert Williams III returns. His agent should find a better situation to make the most money possible in his contract year.

Similarly, Kelly Olynyk has been a starter this season and has been integral in the Utah Jazz owning the Western Conference’s best record as of this writing. It’s possible the Jazz could fall out of favor, and at that point, a pursuit would be more appropriate.

Burks, though, would give the team much-needed scoring production on the wing and depth behind Sam Hauser if teams figure him out in the postseason like they did Miami Heat 3-point specialist Duncan Robinson this past offseason. Given Detroit’s last-place standing in the Eastern Conference, Burks could be the easiest target to land of the three.
