No. 3: He addresses multiple needs on the Celtics

The potential addition of Noah Vonleh should he make the final roster for the Boston Celtics is incredibly enticing. For starters, offensively he presents a multi-faceted skillset with his array of post moves, range on his jumper, playmaking abilities, and raw athleticism.

The former ninth overall pick can make plays for himself and others in the half-court set. The skill to create for himself off the dribble much like a guard. He showed this in spades during his best campaign with the New York Knicks. Coming with the capability to score at all three levels and finish through contact going to the rim.

Now defensively, he presents a matchup nightmare for opposing offenses and adds an additional weapon to Beantown’s stingy defensive identity. With his length and solid frame, at six-foot-11, he can guard up to three positions defensively. In a defense that likes to switch one through five, he is no stranger to taking quicker players on the perimeter and holding his ground.

For Vonleh’s career he averages around 1.8 fouls per game which is a significant upgrade over the foul heavy approach of Daniel Theis. There is a strong possibility he could very well be the depth piece that makes the C’s the deepest roster in the NBA.

Add in the motivation of getting to play for his hometown in his own background, this may be the break and second wind the Indiana product needed. We will see come training camp how it all unfolds, but at HH, Noah Vonleh is viewed as a strong horse in this race for the backup five spot.
