Boston Celtics Summer League player No. 3) Mfiondu Kabengele

Of all the standout performers that were members of this year’s Boston Celtics Summer League team, Mfiondu Kabengele easily managed to shine the brightest, serving as their enforcer down low and their general all-around leader on the floor.

A former first-round pick back in 2019, the big man has struggled to stay at the NBA level, suiting up for two different clubs during this span and spent the majority of his 2021-22 campaign as a member of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

However, during this year’s stay in Vegas, Kabengele showcased an impressive bag of skills that caught the attention of both fans, media pundits, and, yes, even Brad Stevens.

In five total games played, the center proved to be an absolute menace on both ends of the floor, throwing down lob passes with authority while swatting away opponents’ shots as if his life depended on it.

Logging 24.5 minutes per outing, the 24-year-old posted impressive averages of 14.8 points, 8.2 boards, 2.4 assists, and a whopping 2.2 blocks on 59 percent shooting from the floor and 40 percent shooting from deep on three attempts a game.

As we said, his showing in the Summer League was so impressive, in fact, that the C’s front office went about and offered up a two-way contract soon after the conclusion of their run.

Considering the fact that the team should definitely be considering the idea of bolstering their big man depth, heading into training camp, Kabengele will likely receive all the opportunities possible in an effort to make the final cut to the regular season roster.

Next. 3 former All-Stars the C's should still pursue this summer. dark
