The Boston Celtics have had themselves quite an impressive offseason thus far after taking part in two big-time transactions early on in this year’s free agency period that shored up some major areas of weakness within their rotation.

Now, being that we’re just about a month into the offseason, there is still ample time remaining between now and tip-off to the 2022-23 campaign that the C’s front office can utilize to continue fine-tuning Ime Udoka’s rotation.

Of course, the biggest storyline pertaining to this topic revolves around Boston’s bevy of TPE’s and what they plan to do with them.

Though there is some speculation that Brad Stevens and co. could simply wind up letting some of them expire, particularly their illustrious $17.1 million exception, we at HH believe that finding players they could absorb into them could be a highly beneficial move for the ball club.

Having said that, though we are under the impression that actually utilizing their TPE’s could prove to have some positive impacts on the team moving forward, this is not to say that any old talent should be acquired.

Quite the contrary, in fact, as there are several individuals out there that we currently do not believe should be considered as being legitimate targets, and there are some names that have managed to become rather noteworthy amongst the franchise’s faithful followers.

With this in mind, today we discuss 3 popular TPE targets that we at the Houdini believe the Boston Celtics should try to avoid:

Boston Celtics TPE target to avoid No. 1) Terrence Ross

For this list, we’re starting things off with a bit of a twist for, not only has Terrence Ross been a massively popular TPE target amongst the C’s fanbase, but also amongst us here at HH as well.

In fact, over the years (yes, we’ve been stating our desires to see a potential acquisition of the veteran for years) we’ve gone as far as to claim that Ross would be a “dream” target for the Fournier TPE.

However, this was all before the official start to the offseason and, most notably, the events that transpired on the first full day of free agency.

As mentioned earlier, Boston was able to address several weaknesses within their rotation already this summer, two of which being wing depth and second-unit scoring which were initially major reasons why Ross was a highly-touted target, as he’s a player who has made a career for himself as being a bucket getter at this very position.

Ultimately, however, these areas were seemingly shored up in one fell swoop with the signing of Danilo Gallinari who, throughout his 14-year career, has managed to cultivate impressive averages of 15.8 points per game on 38 percent shooting from deep.

As a result, despite the fact that we are still quite fond of Ross, the concept of bringing him aboard at this point in time would be somewhat redundant and the assets it would take to even acquire him would best be served in a deal for somebody else.

For this, we find ourselves hopping off the T-train (for now, at least).
