Boston Celtics dud: Grant Williams
Outside of Al Horford, the Boston Celtics bigs struggled mightily to produce on the offensive side of the ball, and this was especially true for perhaps one of their most trusted scoring options in third-year power forward, Grant Williams.
Coming off of a tremendous Game 2 performance where he dropped 21 points on a whopping 67 percent shooting from downtown, expectations were rather high for the 23-year-old heading into Saturday’s exhibition.
Sadly, the big simply fell flat on the day, as he followed the trend of essentially the rest of his team by failing to convert on the large bulk of his attempts, even when he was wide open which, frankly, was the case for the majority of his shots.
In just under 34 minutes of action, Williams went on to put up just nine points on a putrid 2-for-9 shooting from the floor and 1-for-6 shooting from deep.
Now, the trusty role player did put forth some solid efforts on the less glamorous side of the ball, as he swatted away three shots and played solid on-ball and help defense when going against the reigning Finals MVP, but, unfortunately, one could say these attributes were somewhat canceled out by his foul-happy tendencies, especially during the highly controversial (those dang refs) third period where he cultivated three of his five total fouls.
In order for the Boston Celtics to pull out a win during Monday’s Game 4, they’ll obviously need all hands on deck, and that doubly includes their most reliable bench scoring option in Grant Williams.
