Though they went on the drop two in a row directly after it was reported that Robert Williams III would miss significant time due to a tear in his left meniscus, the Boston Celtics have managed to bounce back in a big way since, rattling off two consecutive wins in back to back nights, with their most recent bout seeing them put up a whopping144 points in a drubbing over the Washington Wizards.

As a result, the C’s are continuing to cling to the hope of attaining the top seed in the Eastern Conference standings by year’s end and have also managed to clinch their seventh straight postseason berth in the process.

Heading into the 2022 playoffs, many are penciling Boston in as a realistic threat to take home the Larry O’Brien Trophy when it’s all said and done.

That said, while we at HH are indeed hopeful, we’re also aware that this team has several problems that need to be fixed before they can hoist banner No. 18 into the rafters back at TD Garden.

From the eye test to the box score it’s evident that, while they are playing like one of the best squads in the association, there are plenty of areas that they need to shore up before they can feel confident in their chances of winning a title this year, and we at the Houdini believe there are 3 stats that the Boston Celtics must improve upon before the postseason rolls around:

Boston Celtics stat No. 1) 14.8 turnovers per game since Time Lord’s injury

As we stated earlier, since Robert Williams went down with his knee injury the Boston Celtics have gone just .500, and a large reason for this has been due to their struggles in the turnover department.

During the majority of their second-half surge, the C’s managed to have a tighter leash on the ball when in comparison to their lackluster first-half stretch, placing ninth in the league in such a category and going 30-9 during their successful run while seeing a less-than-desirable ranking of 16th during their first half of the season where they went just 20-21.

Since Time Lord’s absence, it appears the team has resorted to these old habits, as they’ve been coughing up 14.8 turnovers a game, placing them 19th in the NBA during this time span.

Now yes, we’re well aware of the fact that this statistic is only based on a mere four games played, but being that Williams is expected to be out between four to six weeks, if this is a result of his absence than this is a statistic that they’re clearly going to need to hone in on and try to improve before the playoffs begin.
