Boston Celtics Takeaway No. 2) Who can stop the Jays?

Few teams have two capable wings to guard both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Even if a team has a capable defender like Denver did with Aaron Gordon and Jeff Green, it doesn’t matter as the young tandem combined for 60 on Sunday night, scoring 30 apiece.

This was one of Tatum’s easiest games of the year, as Denver’s pick-and-roll defense was in shambles all night. They let him walk into multiple uncontested 3-point looks, demolishing the Nuggets’ drop coverage. He ended the game with 30 points, six rebounds, and seven assists, on 11-for-17 shooting from the floor and 6-for-10 shooting from deep.

This is the most comfortable Tatum has felt in his career, firmly entering the MVP conversation considering his stellar distribution and improved efficiency.

Brown had an impressive game of his own, finishing with 30 on 12-for-19 shooting. His aggressiveness on the offensive end can sometimes get the best of him, with his handle sometimes geting out of control.

Against Denver, he had his way with their defenders, scoring in mid-range isolation early and often.

Although the next step for Brown is to improve his passing vision, the skills of both Tatum and Marcus Smart make up for his scoring-first mindset.

He’s a perfect number two option for this Celtics team.

This is the second-straight 30-30 game for the Jays, and they’ll look to continue that Monday night in Oklahoma City.
