Last offseason, the Boston Celtics snatched a $5.9 million Trade Player Exception in the Kemba Walker trade to Oklahoma City. Brad Stevens has a year from the exact date of the trade to use this asset, so this upcoming offseason is pretty much the deadline.

In a nutshell, the shamrocks can essentially absorb another contract with the money bestowed to them via the exception. The player they ultimately wind up trading for needs to match the TPE amount or be less than it.

We are a little over a week away from the Christmas day of the NBA season and, with this comes a rather significant question: will the Boston Celtics stand pat or add another piece to the puzzle?

In any eventual deal, it will likely involve one of the four TPE’s that Boston has in its arsenal.

Specifically, in this article, I am focusing on the candidates to fill their smallest trade exception of the bunch.

In any scenario for the purposes of this article, any player addition would mean the Celtics waiving Bruno Fernando.

The Boston Celtics have been attached to a few names here and there whilst NBA rumors spread like wildfire. In this piece, I’m going to add 3 more attractive names to the mix.

So, without further adieu, here are 3 targets the Boston Celtics should pursue with the Kemba Walker TPE:

Boston Celtics TPE target No. 1) Coby White

The first candidate comes in the form of Chicago Bulls combo guard, Coby White.

The former lottery pick is likely to be traded due to an eventual logjam in the Bulls backcourt, and we at HH believe he could be a quality option for Brad Stevens and co. to consider.

Alex Caruso and Lonzo Ball will be healthy again. DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine are having All-Star caliber seasons. Rookie, Ayo Dosunmu, is emerging as a cornerstone prospect for their future.

This former lottery pick could be on the outs in the Windy City.

Enter the Boston Celtics as an intriguing destination.

White’s salary seamlessly fits into the $5.9 million TPE — that’s some shamrock magic right there.

The combo guard does not turn the ball over at a high rate and has the ability to make plays in the halfcourt for himself and for his teammates and, on top of this, at 6-5 he also has the ability to guard both the one and the two positions.

Ideally, he would be a nice replacement should we ship Dennis Schroeder out at the deadline.

On the season, White is averaging 12.8 points per game on 44 percent shooting from the floor and 36 percent shooting from deep.

The Jays could use another playmaker and potential third option scorer., and the former seventh overall pick could fit both bills here.

Should the Bulls decide to move off Coby White, Stevens should have Chicago on speed dial.
