Boston Celtics get a young building block at guard, San Antonio rebuilds

Domantas Sabonis may be a popular target for a ton of Boston Celtics fans out there, but if they could snag anyone (within reason, that is) via trade between now and February’s deadline the large majority of us at HH believe Dejounte Murray should be at the top of the team’s list.

Seemingly always improving each season he’s been in the league, 2021-22 is proving to be a career-best campaign for the 25-year-old, as the point guard finds himself putting up stellar all-around averages of 18.1 points, 8.6 assists, 8.4 rebounds, and two steals per game on 45 percent shooting from the floor and 35 percent shooting from deep.

Unfortunately, however, despite his best efforts San Antonio finds itself down wallowing away at the bottom of the standings of the Western Conference with a record of just 12-18 and, in turn, are seemingly on the brink of blowing up the roster and shifting towards an all-out rebuilding phase.

As we’ve been saying for an unfathomable amount of time now, should they place Murray on the block, we can only envision that all the guard-hungry teams will line up to try and attain him, and the Cs should easily be included here if he becomes available.

However, with so much competition, Boston will have to be willing to shell out in a package for the sixth-year baller, and we think that one along the lines of Aaron Nesmith, Payton Pritchard, Juan Hernangomez, and three future first could be enough to get a deal done.

While they may not be blowing anyone away with their box-score stats, both Nesmith and Pritchard are young ballers who have shown flashes of being legitimate difference-makers in the NBA and, with the proper development, more time on the floor, and in the right rebuilding type of situation, they could go about and ultimately unlock their full potential.

That said, the promise of these aforementioned young talents alone is clearly not going to be enough to entice San Antonio, which is why the three firsts (one of which being a top-10 protected, and the last one being lottery protected) would be a must and, while some may believe this to be a bit too hefty of a haul-out for the Cs, we at HH believe it could be a great move both in the now as well as in the long-term.

A player who seemingly provides a bit of everything when on the floor, a team that could use a bit of everything like the Boston Celtics should be monitoring Murray’s availability rather closely as we get farther into trade season.

Next. A multi-team Myles Turner blockbuster Cs should consider. dark
