Wednesday night, former Boston Celtics franchise point guard, Isaiah Thomas, made his long-awaited return to the hardwood as he saw himself suiting up for the Denver Nuggets’ G League affiliate team, the Grand Rapids Gold.

Despite not having played a lick of pro ball in just over eight months, many were excited to see the former All-Star take part in his developmental league debut as he looks to score his own personal NBA comeback story.

Based upon his debut outing with the Gold, it appears as though he may be closer than many previously believed to accomplishing this aforementioned goal.

In 43 minutes played, Thomas went on to drop a stellar overall stat-line of 42 points, eight assists, six rebounds, and two steals on 53 percent shooting from the floor and 36 percent shooting from deep.

Naturally, with this type of performance from a beloved NBA figure, the media reactions have been pouring in, virtually all of which being positive and many suggesting that it may be time for a varsity league ball club to give him a crack at some action in 2021-22.

Would the Boston Celtics be interested in being one of those potential teams?

For those of you who have followed our work for a while, you’re likely already aware of what our answer is to this question: they absolutely should be!

Dating back to just this past offseason, when it was rumored that Brad Stevens and co. were interested in potentially reuniting with I.T., we at the site were fully on board with the idea, stating that their bench could certainly use for someone of his caliber to help run an offense, go out and buy a bucket, and, simply put, serve as a much-needed spark-plug.

Though the front office did try their best to address these issues prior to the season, snagging guys like Dennis Schroder, Josh Richardson, and Juan Hernangomez — just to name a few –, it’s rather evident that Boston still struggles mightily with their second-unit offense, ranking 28th in points per game, 25th in field goal percentage, and dead last in overall offensive rating.

Now, at the time of our initial writing during this timeframe, many fans were quite hesitant about seeing an Isaiah Thomas reunion, stating that he still hasn’t shown that he’s capable of playing at a quality level in the league after his last few years saw a depleted version of the former MVP candidate thanks to a myriad of injuries.

However, since his last stint, the 32-year-old has managed to simply erupt when given the most in-game attention, dropping a whopping 81 points during a Pro-AM game back in August and now exploding for 40+ just this past week — both were contests that saw pro-level competition.

The only way for Isaiah Thomas to show if he still has what it takes to make an impact at the next level is by just giving him a shot and, should he be willing to take a 10-day contract, the Boston Celtics may want to strongly consider extending an offer his way.

Next. 3 Cs most likely to be sent packing this trade season. dark
