The Boston Celtics have already made fans a happy bunch thus far into the offseason what with their various shakeups and transactions to date and, based on recent rumblings, their smiles could start getting even wider.

According to NBA Insider, Marc Stein, the shamrocks are seemingly interested in reuniting with former franchise point guard, Isaiah Thomas, this offseason:

"Boston, I’m told, has interest in an Isaiah Thomas reunion, with new Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens known to be one of Thomas’ biggest fans."

The concept of a reunion between the Boston Celtics and Isaiah Thomas has been one that the Houdini has been big on seemingly since his departure from the organization back in 2017 and, throughout this past campaign, we continued the discussion of said concept.

Frankly, such a signing makes sense, for the Cs are in dire need of bolstering their point guard position after the trade that sent Kemba Walker to Oklahoma City yet they don’t have the cap space to realistically pursue the bigger names found at the one in this year’s  class.

Being that they’ll likely have to target some high-risk, high-reward talents already, they might as well go after someone familiar with the organization, and a guy like IT has only proven to thrive whilst donning the green and white threads.

During his tenure with the Boston Celtics, Thomas posted per-game averages of 24.7 points and six assists on 44 percent shooting from the floor and 37 percent shooting from deep while nabbing two All-Star nods, an All-NBA selection, and a top-5 finish in the 2017 MVP race.

Now, of course we’re not trying to suggest that the 32-year-old would be anywhere close to his final year in Boston, where he posted 28.9 points and 5.9 assists on 38 percent shooting from deep and finished fifth in the running for league MVP but, frankly, with the likes of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown on the roster, they wouldn’t need him to be.

Even a rusty version of Isaiah Thomas was able to put up double-digit points on his own during his stint with the New Orleans Pelicans earlier this season after not playing a lick of NBA Basketball for well over a year leading up to his 10-day contract signing — averaged 7.7 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 rebounds in 3-games played, two of which he logged more than 10 minutes and finished with a +7 and +2, respectively, in the box score.

On a veteran’s minimum contract, the concept of bringing on the offensive-minded Thomas (career averages of 18.1 point per game scorer with shooting splits of 44 / 36 / 82) could wind up being a solid move for Boston’s putrid offensive production off the pine (ranked 28th in points and 23rd in offensive rating last season) while also simply being a tremendous feel-good story that could help boost the morale of the team as a whole after enduring one of their worst seasons from over the past decade.
