Boston Celtics trade target No. 1) Doug McDermott

While the Boston Celtics should seriously look into acquiring more offensive-minded players and shooters to have at the ready within their arsenal, ultimately their salary situation severely hinders their ability to bring on a true top-notch fit like, say, Buddy Hield or Eric Gordon.

However, because of the sign-and-trade they took part in involving Evan Fournier this past offseason, they have a $17 million TPE at their disposal that they could look to use on a multitude of players that could find themselves becoming available between now and February’s trade deadline and, should they prioritize pure shooting above anything else, we believe Doug McDermott could be a quality option to consider.

Currently a starter for the lowly San Antonio Spurs, the forward finds himself serving as the team’s most trusty shooter, knocking down his attempts at a 47 percent clip from the field and a 44 percent clip from deep while dropping 11.2 points in 25 minutes per night.

A career 16 points per game scorer (per 75 possessions) on 48 percent shooting from the floor 41 percent shooting from deep provides evidence, and frankly confidence, that his efficiency from the field is all but guaranteed when on the hardwood while his specific size allows him to provide serviceable playing time at either the three or four within a rotation and, to us, both of these aspects should be of great interest for the Celtics at this point in time.

In the past, we at the site have stated that Doug McDermott is a player worth pursuing on the low and now, nearly two months into the year, we still stand by this assertion.
