Those expecting a Boston Celtics trade at this point may believe that a Marcus Smart deal could be on the agenda after his comments last night expressing frustration about his current role with the team.

Calling out the team’s top two players could normally be a death sentence, but Smart has been around longer than them, accumulating two years of postseason experience before either ‘Jay’ ever put on a Cs uniform.

Perhaps instead of Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens shipping off a man referred to as the heart and soul of the defense, the first-year front office leader will instead pursue a deal that moves less money around…but still makes a sizable impact on the outlook on the roster.

NBA Analysis Network proposed the following mock trade involving disgruntled Sacramento Kings big man Marvin Bagley:

"Boston Celtics Receive: F Marvin Bagley IIISacramento Kings Receive: F Grant Williams, F Aaron Nesmith, BOS 2022 2nd Round Pick"

N.A.N has sent other mock trades involving both the Celtics and Bagley, seemingly linking the two at every turn.

This one is the closest to being realistic based on the 2021-22 season’s early returns.

Grant Williams, the primary piece in the above proposed mock trade heading back to Sacramento, has played his way into being perhaps the best young asset on the Cs roster. Most notably, Williams is shooting a scorching 47% from the 3-point line this season in 21 attempts so far.

Elsewhere, Aaron Nesmith is simply salary filler considering the complete lack of impact he’s had this season. He’s appeared in four games but has only played in seven minutes of garbage time.

Finally, the future second rounder seals the deal to upgrade the frontcourt with a former #2 overall pick.

As much as Bagley has disappointed in his career, Sacramento scouts still saw something in him that they didn’t see in Luka Doncic and Trae Young.
