Waiter? Yes, I’ll have my own foot fried with a side of chipotle sauce. Why? Oh because two Boston Celtics players have served it to me with their preseason play.

Hardwood Houdini is always looking out for the trends. We always figured a Kemba Walker trade was coming at some point, and Gordon Hayward didn’t seem long for Boston after the way his first two full seasons went in green.

This preseason, I pegged these two guys as potential goners. I couldn’t be further from the truth with those predictions.

Jabari Parker and Grant Williams played their way onto the Boston Celtics roster.

It’s hard to see either of these guys get moved before next week’s opener against the New York Knicks given their strong preseason play.

While it’s usually easy to dismiss exhibition games, when there’s a new coach and a first-time adjustment to live crowds for the players involved, the preseason hits different.

Seeing Williams and Parker–who paid their dues during the slog that was the stretch run of a one-of-a-kind pandemic-stricken season–contribute early and defy the odds makes us happy and quite frankly should do the same for fans everywhere.

Williams lost his pandemic roommate Kemba Walker in the offseason from the Al Horford trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and has not had anything close to resembling a normal regular season so far in his career.

Meanwhile, Parker has had a snake-bitten career after being drafted with the #2 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. He tore his ACL twice in three seasons, including his rookie season after just 25 professional games. To see him stick and potentially carve out a role on the Cs after what he’s been through would make this fried foot a delightful delicacy.
