Boston Celtics: 3 things the Cs roster needs in order to contend
By Chris Conte
The Boston Celtics need to improve their wing depth
Currently, the wing depth for the Boston Celtics currently looks like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Josh Richardson, Aaron Nesmith, and Romeo Langford.
That’s it, and that’s not good enough.
Two second-year players backing up an MVP favorite and an All-Star favorite? That’s a recipe for disaster waiting to happen, and Brad Stevens cannot go into the season looking like that.
Danny Ainge did it last year, and look what happened when Jayson Tatum got COVID or when Jaylen Brown was ruled out for the season with a wrist injury.
It didn’t look good to watch, and it wasn’t pleasant to play in.
The Boston Celtics have a couple of options to improve their wing depth, but with their spending budget capped at the taxpayer’s exception ($5.9 million) and their trade budget capped at expiring deals, it will be tricky to see who fits the glove the Celtics desperately need to put on someone.
On the trade market, Kyle Anderson appears to be the most likely scenario for Boston. The 27-year-old is on the chopping block for the Grizzles despite coming off a career year last season, and he offers everything the Cs could ask for.
Anderson can shoot, pass, defend, create his shot, create a shot for others, and won’t cost the team more than a late pick.
