Boston Celtics role player target: Josh Hart

Josh Hart would be the perfect role player not just for the Boston Celtics, but for pretty much any team.

He does a little bit of everything, including averaging a whopping eight rebounds a game last year at only 6-5.

While he may not be the rebounding center that fans had in mind, he would definitely help on the boards on both ends of the floor along with the rest of his typical role player skillset.

Other than Hart’s rebounding, he’s a good defender who can step out both on the perimeter and in the post pretty well, meaning he can do decently well against positions one through four.

While he only shot 33 percent from deep last year, his career percentage is 35 percent, indicating his long-ball is serviceable enough where he is a threat, needs to be covered, and should only improve as he gets older.

Taking into account the elite rebounding for a guard, solid ball-handling, serviceable shooting, and versatile defense and you’ve got an elite role player that would fit perfectly alongside Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

In terms of actually getting him on the team, given Hart is a free agent this offseason, it is very possible for the Boston Celtics to acquire him. However, like with Lonzo Ball, he’s a restricted free agent meaning a sign-and-trade would be most likely.

If the Cs could possibly acquire both Lonzo and Hart in a sign-and-trade, that would be a dream scenario if they decided to solely focus on building around Tatum and Brown.

While Hart could very likely start for the Celtics if he were acquired, he could also be a great energy guy off the bench, a role he played well for the Pelicans.

If Brad Stevens can manage to make the salaries work using sign-and-trades and other salary cap maneuvers to acquire both Lonzo and Hart from NOLA, that would be a great move that would really help the two Jays thrive as the main scoring options next season without relying on building a super top-heavy roster that comes with having a Big-3.
