“Bad contract” Boston Celtics target No. 2) D’Angelo Russell

Another point guard that could find himself available on the trade block this coming offseason is Minnesota Timberwolves maxed out man, D’Angelo Russell.

Acquired at the mid-way point of last season, Russell was brought to the organization to serve as the Robin to Karl-Anthony Towns’ Batman.

Now, a little over a year removed from said transaction between the Wolves and Golden State Warriors, the pairing has yet to work out, with the franchise seeing their 16th playoff-less season in the last 17 years.

Now, there are many factors at play as to why things have not managed to work out, including injuries and, simply, COVID-19 related issues. However, these exterior truths may not be enough to save the duo from being split apart this summer, as Evan Massey of NBA Analysis Network reports that sources say KAT and Russell will be made available:

Should this happen, we at the Houdini have made it abundantly clear that the Boston Celtics should be interested in inquiring about Towns, and have even have gone about and made room for the likes of D-Lo and the remaining two years of his contract in a past hypothetical deal.

Despite the down year overall by the team, D’Angelo Russell has actually managed to play quite well, averaging 19 points, 5.8 assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game on 43 percent shooting from the floor and 39 percent shooting from deep.

At just 25-years-old while only being two years removed from his leading performance as the Brooklyn Nets’ top-dog (21.1 points & seven assists on 37 percent shooting from deep) that earned him an All-Star nod, even with an average salary of $30.6 million a year, it could be worth taking a chance on the youngster running a point guard friendly Brad Stevens offense.
