Seemingly all season the Boston Celtics have been intertwined within the rumor mill, mostly in regard to potential trades the team’s front office could wind up partaking in come the March 25th trade deadline.
That said, recently such buzz has shifted from the team’s players to personnel and, more specifically, to their head coach Brad Stevens.
Following the firing of Indiana University head coach Archie Miller earlier this week, rumors started to circulate suggesting that the Hoosiers could be interested in bringing on the C’s head honcho as a replacement.
Initially listed as a candidate to take on the vacancy by the Indy Star, writer Zach Osterman cited Stevens’ ties to the state of Indiana coupled with Boston’s recent struggles as reasons for why such a move could be well within the realm of possibility:
"Stevens, a Zionsville native son of a former IU football player who took Butler to back-to-back national title games, is many Indiana fans’ white whale. He’s been on the wish list for closing in on a decade, at once because of his background, his accomplishments and his cerebral, defense-to-offense style that would fit Indiana culturally. Would he want the job? There are murmurings of discontent in year eight of his tenure in Boston, but it’s widely believed Stevens enjoys coaching at the NBA level and, should his time with the Celtics end, he could probably get another job at that level relatively easily."

Though at first, these rumors were seen as little more than just baseless noise — and perhaps for many, they still are –, earlier today Boston Celtics fans once again found Stevens’ name circulating within the Twitterverse, with some individuals reportedly “in the know” suggesting that the head coach jumping ship mid-season seems a bit more realistic than some may previously have thought and that a decision could potentially be made relatively soon:
Now, to make things abundantly clear: all of this is currently just speculation. We here at the Houdini are not stating anything listed above to be true or false/ fact or fiction.
That said, with the buzz becoming louder and louder by the second, keeping a close eye on the Brad Stevens to the Indiana Hoosiers rumor may be one’s best course of action moving forward.
Again, perhaps all of this is just noise, but at this point in time, no one but Stevens can say this for certain.
