Boston Celtics bring on P.J. Tucker, Houston Rockets land expiring contracts

For quite some time now, the Boston Celtics have found themselves linked to the likes of veteran power forward, P.J. Tucker.

Though in the past we’ve seen people suggest Ainge and co. should pursue him with their $28.5 million TPE, ultimately we believe using such means to acquire such a small sum of money ($7.9 million) would simply be a waste of the luxury.

This proposed deal, however, would bring the veteran aboard while also holding on to the traded player exception.

Viewed by many as a “perfect fit” for this 2021 Celtics squad, Tucker would give this team some much-needed experience and toughness as they embark on their second-half journey.

The ideal 3-and-D talent, the 35-year-old boasts career averages of 7.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game on 42 percent shooting from the floor and 36 percent shooting from deep.

Along with him, we see fellow Rockets teammate Danuel House Jr. (9.3 points on 36 percent shooting from deep for his career) coming to Beantown to serve as a rock-solid offensive-minded wing to come off the pine and provide an extra scoring punch to this 25th ranked points-per-game bench unit.

In exchange, the Rockets get 3 future seconds — what is one of the reported asking prices for P.J. Tucker alone — as well as a few expiring contracts to clear up cap space, the sophomore combo guard Carsen Edwards, and Tristan Thompson (just to make the money work).
