Boston Celtics second-unit dud #1: Jeff Teague

Little did Boston Celtics fans know when he was signed last November, Jeff Teague has assumed a much bigger role than he had in his last stop in Atlanta. With the Hawks, Teague was the veteran backup to Trae Young after serving as the starter in Minnesota in the years prior.

At the onset of the 2020-21 season, Teague had to start games for the Celtics due to the injury woes Kemba Walker was dealing with. Boston found a better balance with Marcus Smart playing the lead floor general role, and Teague’s shooting eventually plummeted to a career-low 37% from the field.

Boston Celtics second-unit dud #2: Carsen Edwards

The aforementioned Kemba Walker absence has created a star out of Payton Pritchard, but the Cs probably wish that Carsen Edwards was the one to step up and fill out the same role in the absence of the former All-NBA PG.

Instead, Edwards is underwhelming in year two once again, unable to get the 3-point shot that got him to the big leagues going once again. Unless Edwards is facing the Cleveland Cavaliers, it seems as though he is unable to show off the shot that had Ainge reaching to draft the undersized combo guard in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Boston Celtics second-unit dud #3: Romeo Langford

You can’t call Romeo Langford’s 2020-21 season a sophomore slump because the Indiana product has not once suited up for the Boston Celtics. After selecting him with the #14 pick in 2019, the Cs have yet to really see any return on investment from Langford.

Yes, injuries have been the cause, but drafting an injury-prone player makes this less of a surprise. While his return is seemingly imminent, his 2019-20 production being replicated would deem the second-year man a dud in 2021.
