Boston Celtics player No. 3) Jaylen Brown
As we said in the introduction slide, we love all of the players that are listed within this article and would like nothing more than for them to remain with the Boston Celtics and help the franchise compete for banner number 18.
However, this does not take away from the fact that they could realistically find themselves on the trading block at some point in 2021 and, of all three players found here today, the inclusion of Jaylen Brown pains us the most, especially considering that he may be the most realistic player of the bunch to be dealt.
Recent buzz has suggested that the shamrocks are one of the top-teams on James Harden‘s destination wish list. With this, according to N.B. Lindberg of Space City Scoop, the team has perhaps the best offer that could be proposed to Houston to land the superstar and, unfortunately, it revolves heavily on Brown heading to the Rockets:
"The Celtics have sneakily made the Eastern Conference Finals three of the past four seasons but an injection of James Harden could see them finally breakthrough. Jayson Tatum is non-negotiable, he is one of the best young players in the league, and his value on the market would be higher than Harden’s. However, Jaylen Brown is an extremely valuable trade chip in his own right. He’s entering his prime, he’s cost controlled for multiple seasons, and he can help your team make a playoff push right away. Brown recently turned 24, which gives him more upside but the bar he set last season makes him a borderline All-Star at worst for the foreseeable future. Marcus Smart, while not the offensive player Brown is, is one of the best perimeter defenders in the league and is under contract for the next two seasons."
A few months ago, I personally penned an article discussing this exact scenario, and how Harden should be one of the only players the Boston Celtics should ever consider trading Jaylen Brown for.
Admittedly, in the article, I made sure to express disinterest in such an idea but stated that if the Cs really wanted to get their hands on Harden, it could realistically be done by dangling the 24-year-old wing.
With recent validation by Adrian Wojnarowski in regard to mutual interest between Harden and the Cs, the idea of the rising star finding himself on the trade block seems to be very real… even though we really wish it wasn’t.
3 big men Cs should have pursued harder this offseason. dark. Next
