Trade for Boston Celtics to land Jrue Holiday No. 2) 3 team deal with the Knicks

This trade gets a little funkier than the one in the previous slide, as we see the Boston Celtics acquiring Jrue Holiday, the New Orleans Pelicans receiving a high lottery selection, and a homecoming between the New York Knicks and Bronx-native, Kemba Walker.

Over the past several months, reports have surfaced that the Knickerbockers are interested in the idea of shopping this year’s eighth-overall pick for the ability to move back in the draft. More recently, they’ve been rumored to be interested in acquiring a star veteran point guard to add to their current core of youngsters in an effort to once again try to contend for a playoff spot.

For the Knicks, this deal accomplishes both of these publicized goals.

For NOLA, the trade provides them with New York’s pick, thus giving them two lottery selections in this year’s draft class that they could add to their already young and talented roster to grow alongside one another throughout the coming years. Not only does the deal accomplish this, but by shedding Holiday’s remaining $50+ million over the next two seasons, they provide themselves with more cap flexibility to both re-sign All-Star Brandon Ingram and be players for more available talents during this offseason’s free agency period.

Because of this, the deal makes sense for the Pelicans as well.

Lastly, we see Holiday making his way to Beantown along with a second-rounder via New York at the expense of 3 first-round picks and their current All-Star guard, Kemba Walker.

Let me be clear: I personally love Walker in green and white.

What he’s done for this team through just a season of being here is truly fantastic and something that cannot be understated by the shamrock faithful. Through 56 games, the 2019 All-NBA talent put up stellar averages of 20.4 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.9 rebounds on 43 percent shooting from the floor and 38 percent shooting from deep.

That said, with concerns about his knee ailments rapidly growing, it’s been rumored that the Boston Celtics could actually look into cutting ties with Walker after just one year into his four-year, $141 million deal.

With this trade, they would be accomplishing both their recently rumored goals of acquiring Holiday and offloading Kemba’s deal in one fell swoop.

Though not our favorite idea for the Cs to consider, by all accounts this is a very realistic possibility should Danny Ainge want to acquire the NOLA star.
