Draft replacement for Brad Wanamaker No. 2) Killian Hayes, Ratiopharm Ulm

In the past, we’ve talked about the Boston Celtics potentially trading up in the draft to pursue a select few individuals we believe worthy of their consideration. Of said prospects listed, Killian Hayes was the first to be mentioned.

We stated that should the C’s front office want to find an insurance policy for Kemba Walker as his knee ailments are expected to be career lasting, trading up for the standout prospect in Hayes may be a worthwhile long-term investment.

As expressed in the piece linked to above, the Houdini sees the French-native as a potential star in the making with his specific combination of skill and stature.

"Playing in Europe contractually since 2017, the 19-year-old possesses incredible offensive versatility, impressive size for his position –6-5 –, and has professional experience heading into draft night. Playing for the German ball-club Ratiopharm Ulm in 2019-20, Hayes managed to boast per-game averages of 12.8 points, 6.2 assists, and 1.5 steals on 46 percent shooting from the floor and 39 percent shooting from deep. All top-notch NBA comparisons connect the Euro-talent to the likes of James Harden and D’Angelo Russell, as he comes in as a left-handed guard with a fluid jumper and a great feel for the game."

Again, while the idea of moving up in the draft for a point guard appears unlikely, should they feel the need to find a more talented player to serve as Walker’s immediate backup — or, perhaps his replacement if some of our hypothetical trade scenarios become a reality — Killian Hayes would be a fantastic prospect to consider.
