Boston Celtics: Jaylen Brown honored with NBA Cares Community Assist award
Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown has been honored by NBA Cares, receiving their 2020 Community Assist award.
Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown was one of the five players honored by NBA Cares with their annual Community Assist award, given to the players most devoted to social justice issues as well as those doing the most to help communities stricken by COVID-19.
Joining Brown on the honoree list were Sacramento Kings forward Harrison Barnes, Milwaukee Bucks guard George Hill, Oklahoma City Thunder guard Chris Paul and Dallas Mavericks big man Dwight Powell.
Having long been known for being one of the league’s most progressive teams, the Cs have a special individual in Brown. Deemed “too smart for the NBA”, Brown has improved leaps and bounds as a player–particularly during the 2019-20 campaign–which has only aided his platform in bettering local communities.
The Houdini has covered Brown’s activism during the Pandemic at length. Whether it has been advocating for mask safety, or for justice in regards to the Breonna Taylor situation in Louisville, Kentucky, Brown has been fighting the good fight.
That he has been recognized as one of the five most active members of the NBA community is a testament to the effort he has put forth. Brown is arguably the second biggest name behind Chris Paul, and the more players like Brown use their platforms to help bring about tangible change in the world, the more teams like the Boston Celtics will benefit their fanbase and push the world forward in a meaningful way.
