Doug McDermott

Last but not least–okay, maybe least–is the former Creighton star Doug McDermott. The 2014 draftee has become a role player, and on the Boston Celtics, he’d functionally replace Semi Ojeleye in the lineup.

Ojeleye is a free agent, and any proposed 3-for-1 deal between Indiana and Boston for Hayward would likely include a few picks going to the Pacers. Being that a teardown in Indiana is very likely, other pieces might be sold for collateral. Remember, just because we don’t think Oladipo is worth the roll of the dice, doesn’t mean it wouldn’t make sense for another team to hop on the bidding.

Assuming the Paul George trade didn’t set the market at an unrealistic value, this would be a depth bolstering move for the Cs that fulfills several areas of need. McDermott’s role would be Ojeleye’s, but he’s proven to do it more effectively.

In fact, he was scorching from behind the 3-point line on a Pacers team that couldn’t have been more unprepared for the playoffs–43 percent on over four attempts per game. There’s little doubt that wouldn’t translate to a Boston Celtics run.
