Area the Boston Celtics must address in NBA Draft No. 2) Backup point guard

This is not indicative of Brad Wanamaker’s play during the postseason.

Despite the fact that we have oft found ourselves preaching the need for the Boston Celtics to improve from the senior-citizen sophomore, during their 17 game run in the playoffs, Wanamaker actually proved to be a competent contributor of the pine — averaged 4.9 points, two rebounds, 1.8 assists, and just shy of a block per game on 44 percent shooting from deep.

Having said that, it was still evident that when All-Star Kemba Walker was resting on the sideline, this team found much less success with ball movement. With that, their need for a playmaker and facilitator is apparent and, while Wanamaker has his positive attributes, he is not what they need in a backup for Walker.

In this upcoming draft, there are quite a few options the shamrocks could consider taking a chance on in the hope that they could blossom into a primary one-guard reserve. Players such as Alabama standout Kira Lewis Jr. and North Carolina talent Cole Anthony are both guards that likely will be available when the Celtics are on the clock and, are two players, in particular, the Houdini has urged Mr. Ainge to have on the team’s radar.
