In a somewhat shocking turn of events, Fox Sports 1 analyst Nick Wright has openly admitted he was wrong about his preseason prediction for the 2019-20 Boston Celtics.
Look, a lot of people doubted the Boston Celtics following last summer’s roster overhaul. After an early playoff exit that was preceded by a sub-par regular season, 3/5ths of the starting lineup and two key role players left town.
Fox Sports 1’s Nick Wright–notorious for defending LeBron James–was critical of the 2019-20 C’s, believing the team got worse after replacing Kyrie Irving, Al Horford, Marcus Morris, Terry Rozier and Aron Baynes with Kemba Walker, Enes Kanter and a handful of rookies while allotting more minutes to incumbent rotation members that were previously serving background roles.
Well, Wright was very wrong. The C’s clicked from the very start, surprising many by producing a top-five offense, defense, and record in what was the most unusual regular season in the history of the league.
To his credit, he is owning up for his terrible preseason take…even if it took a little ribbing from Enes Kanter to get there:
.@getnickwright has a message for @EnesKanter:

"I don't do this often, bc it doesn't often happen. But I was wrong. I thought you guys were really going to struggle defensively. The defense, a top 5 defense, actually improved when Enes Kanter was on the court." — @getnickwright pic.twitter.com/B5U52B0R31
This is still one of the funniest 💩

Good on Wright for giving credit where credit is due. The C’s have played their way into the Eastern Conference championship mix, and–despite their underdog status against the Toronto Raptors–have as good of a shot at a title as any team left in the bubble.
Boston and Toronto are expected to begin their playoff series this weekend with the news that the players have decided to resume the postseason following boycotts to the games scheduled for this past Wednesday and Thursday.
