Round-one takeaway No. 2) Marcus Smart was snubbed by DPOY voters

When the voting results came out not a week ago for the 2020 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, many were perplexed when they did not find the likes of Marcus Smart listed. Throughout this entire season, the Swiss Army man has put his body and energy on the line for the betterment of the team, specifically on the less glamorous side of the ball.

Whether it be his whopping three-block outing against the Miami Heat on January 28th or his enchanting steal and out-of-bounds save he had on Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers back on November 20th, one can look back on the Boston Celtics’ season and find countless highlight plays made on defense by the sixth-year veteran.

The fact that Smart didn’t even make it onto the voter’s ballots for the illustrious award is, simply put, a travesty, and the efforts he has put forth in the bubble have backed up this claim.

And if you don’t believe me, why don;t you ask how his teammate Kemba Walker feels about this egregious snub.

"“I’m glad he’s on my team, I’ll tell you that much,” Walker said, per NBC Sports Boston. “He’s so special. Defensively, he’s just a monster. He’s willing to take on any challenge. He’s willing to take on whatever it takes to win a basketball game. … That man can literally guard anyone in the world. And I can’t see how he’s not in the Defensive Player of the Year conversation. Like, I just can’t see it.”"
