Vincent Poirier

All season, we here at the Houdini have been critical of Vincent Poirier all season. Simply put, he hasn’t done much to stand out in a rotation that has been short on big men due to various injuries in the rotation.

For the 26 year old rookie, minutes only came when he was one of the only bodies on the depth chart at center. With that said, he made a almost no impact in the 21 games he saw the floor time. He averaged under a bucket (1.9 points per game) and just one board in just about five minutes per contest.

With the Frenchman set to make $2.5 million in 2020-21, simply cutting him wouldn’t make sense considering the Boston Celtics may find themselves paying luxury taxes if the salary cap and tax line both drop. A decrease in revenue means many free agents may have to settle for the minimum this off-season.

That makes it hard to justify Poirier’s salary. With no obvious signs of improvement throughout the season and limited upside, it may not make sense to just hold onto his deal. Looking to offload his deal with a second round draft pick may be the best course for the C’s, who could easily find a higher upside replacement via the draft.
