March 20th at Toronto Raptors

In the recent weeks, conversations have started to arise about who in the NBA can be seen as legitimate title contenders in 2020. Almost all outlets have given a three-team deep answer to this question: the Milwaukee Bucks, the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers.

Some have even broken things down into tiers of contention, with the aforementioned bunch amongst themselves in tier-one and teams like the Toronto Raptors and the Boston Celtics in tier-two.

While fans of Canada’s favorite franchise may be inclined to say they believe the Raps should be seen just as legitimate of a contender as those at the top of most peoples lists — after all, they are the reigning NBA Champions — we here at the Houdini believe that of all the Eastern Conference teams, Boston has the best shot at being seen in the same vein as the squads in tier-one.

Sure, Toronto has the edge on the Celtics by three wins in the record books, but in regard to their head-to-head matchups Boston leads the way two games to one. This matchup on March 20th could bring the C’s their first season series win against the Raptors since the 2012-13.

Toronto is a talented/ overachieving bunch, but the overall roster of the Boston Celtics is clearly the superior of the two — at least in regard to fire power — and would, presumedly, matchup better in a seven game series amongst the likes of top-tier contending teams, thus making us believe the C’s, not the Raps, should be seen as the second best squad in the East.

March 20th’s matchup could put this question to bed if Beantown hands them a decisive ‘L’ during their visit up North.
