Dorian Finney-Smith

Dorian Finney-Smith was a target I penned for the Boston Celtics when talks of acquiring a wing first came out but it makes even more sense now with the Dallas Mavericks suffering from a lack of big man options after Dwight Powell‘s season-ending injury.

Finney-Smith, now in his fourth season, has steadily improved in his career–he now averages just a hair under ten points per game on 46% shooting from the field and 40% from the 3-point line on four attempts per game.

The Dallas Mavericks have a void at center that Willey Caulie-Stein didn’t fill completely. The Boston Celtics have a German center that would fit quite nicely in the Mavericks lineup alongside fellow countryman Maxi Kleber and in the shadow of the greatest German (and potentially European) player of all time in Dirk Nowitzki.

Daniel Theis for Finney-Smith isn’t a move that makes much sense on the surface, but as a follow-up deal for say Clint Capela, it would make sense. While Theis is the team’s top option at center, he may be able to bring more value than just a veteran wing in a deal.

Even if Capela isn’t acquired, the Celtics could try and give up nonessential pieces like Semi Ojeleye and Vincent Poirier and package a pick to upgrade Dallas’ future and add an impact wing who can help space the floor.
