Boston Celtics: finding the best 3 Vincent Poirier trade packages
There is a theme here that you’ve probably already caught on to. The Boston Celtics will need to attach a draft pick to offload Poirier. That’s just the nature of the trade market for a 26-year-old rookie who is averaging less than two points per game on a team that has seen a rash of injuries at the center position.
Tacko Fall, the long-term project that the team stashed in the G-League on a two-way contract, has been able to find the floor more than the French center. The reality is, he doesn’t have trade value by himself.
But, like mentioned above, we’re attaching a second round draft choice to the equation. That is the draw, and it’s one that greatly appeals to rebuilding teams.
Enter the Washington Wizards.
Like the Warriors, key injuries have prevented the Wizards from reaching their potential this season. While John Wall has never been able to lift his team in the playoffs–or regular season for that matter–like Steph Curry has, Washington still needs him on the floor…if for no other reason than the team investing more than a quarter of the salary cap on their star point guard alone.
Without Wall, it has been a struggle for the Wizards to remain relevant. At least on the defensive end. Washington has scored 115 points per game, and their incredible 3-point shooting has been the key.
Davis Bertans is the team’s primary long-range threat, but Poirier’s deal isn’t going to land Bertans, who has several teams interested in a deal. Garrison Mathews is the more realistic target.
Mathews has broken out in recent weeks, with a 28 point performance against the Heat serving as his coming out party. His recent injury–coincidentally against the Boston Celtics–could reduce his trade value. With that being the case, the C’s could take advantage of the fact that he will be missing several games with the ankle issue.
