Boston Celtics: Win or Go Home
As we enter game five tonight in Milwaukee, the Celtics have two options: win or go home. They’ve blown home court advantage after dropping two in Boston. Will the Celtics rebound to force a game six back in Beantown? We find out tonight.
After game two, Boston Celtics fans shared some optimism; they were going back home for basically a best of five series. Confidence was high, there was no way the Celts could have played any worse than they did in game two. No way Kyrie would lay two eggs in a row. I mean, he assured us the team was fine because he was there.
Game three came and went and the Celts lost by seven (and honestly it wasn’t that close). Kyrie went 8-22 from the field and George Hill and Pat Connaughton destroyed our bench for the tune of 31 points. The Celts chucked up 40 threes and only connected on 16 of them. The soon-to-be MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo, led the way with 32/13/8, adding in three blocks while battling foul trouble most of the game.
Entering game four, Green Teamers were still feeling confident and basically uttering the same sentiment, “No way the team shoots that badly again. No way Kyrie lays three eggs in a row.” Well here we are after the Celtics took another 41 threes, connecting on only nine of them, which was just awful. Irving went 7-22 from the field and just couldn’t get it going…AGAIN!
The Celtics have pretty much got nothing from their bench over the last two games. Gordon Hayward has shot 3-13 from the field and Terry Rozier 1-8 at home as well. Translation: Not good! Marcus Smart came back, but was clearly still rusty, shooting 1-7 in 15 minutes of action.

George Hill has been the best guard in the whole series, and he doesn’t even start. He’s gone 15-23 from the field over the last two games while coming off the bench and just making plays to help get the Bucks to a three games to one series lead. Rozier hasn’t even really gotten the opportunity to get in Bledsoe’s head, which was a lot of fun to watch in last year’s series versus Milwaukee.
Will Brad Stevens make adjustments? Will he try to get his team away from shooting three after three after three? The team looked to go on spurts when Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were driving to the hoop.
Will he have someone stick with Khris Middleton wherever he goes at all times? Middleton has been a Celtics killer since last year and nothing has changed in this series, even though the Celts missed an opportunity last game with him shooting 4-19 from the field.
The big question for a lot of Celtics fans is, if the Celtics lose, will this be Kyrie Irving’s last game in the green and white? After the last three stinkers, a lot of people are jumping off of the Kyrie bandwagon and ready to drive him to Logan themselves. If he comes out and puts up a huge game, thus prolonging the series, will people change their tune?
The Celtics have their backs against the wall and it will show if they’re ready to fight together, or just give up, which it looked like they did on Monday night. As someone who drinks the green Kool-Aid, I’m hoping for the best, I mean, it’s in Boston’s DNA.
The Bruins just won three in a row to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals and the Red Sox did it in 2004 starting with “The Steal.” To quote Kevin Garnett “Anything is Possible” and we will see tonight.
