Kyrie Irving (quad) questionable for Boston Celtics vs Brooklyn Nets
In what is a must-win game for the Boston Celtics Monday night against the Brooklyn Nets, Kyrie Irving may not play with a right quad injury.
The Boston Celtics announced Kyrie Irving is questionable for Monday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets with a right quad contusion.
This isn’t the first time Irving has missed time with a quad contusion. He sat out a few games last season with the same injury, but if you’ve ever been kneed in the thigh during a basketball game, you’ll understand why he misses time for it.

There’s a chance he still plays but Irving’s absence would make for an interesting story-line for this game. After calling out young teammates Saturday night for not playing consistently at a championship level, one of those players might have a chance to start.
Terry Rozier has typically been the Celtics go-to starter when Irving sits, but he hasn’t played well enough to warrant time. Against the Magic, Rozier didn’t score, went 0-5 from the field and was a minus-20 on the night. Stevens could start Jaylen Brown or Gordon Hayward, who have had their fair share of struggles lately but haven’t been as bad as Rozier.
If Rozier starts and has a good game, which is likely considering his splits as a starter, it could serve as further proof that Rozier may not be able to adapt back to a bench role. Following up your worst game of the year with a good one in different roles would be pretty damning evidence.
All of this may not matter. Irving could play, have a great game, beat the Nets and hopefully lead the Celtics on a run of consistent, winning basketball. However, the situation with Rozier grows more curious each game. The trade deadline is February 7th, and we’re running out of time to determine whether Rozier will accept a reserve role. Even if he does, we don’t have evidence he is effective in one.
