Aron Baynes confirms there was never any doubt about him returning to the Boston Celtics this season

Aron Baynes might have had the easiest contract negotiations we have ever seen with the Boston Celtics. It took absolutely no time, and Baynes returned on a team friendly contract, emphasizing his commitment to this franchise.

In a recent interview Baynes addressed the fact that he did not even think about testing the waters, never talking to any team other than the Celtics (Via MassLive):

"I didn’t talk to anyone else because I knew that this was where I wanted to be. Like I said, this felt unfinished last year. The goal coming back is we know exactly where we want to be and what it’s going to take. It’s about trying to get there and both parties saw that. Hopefully, we can help each other attain that ultimate goal"

When the Celtics first brought in Baynes, no one imagined he’d have the impact he did last season. He was a starter almost the entire season, he was part the most effective defensive duo of bigs in the NBA, and he was a true anchor on a team that could never find stability because of injuries.

Baynes was a part of the identity of this team last year, and he knows that this core has unfinished business.

The one issue now is whether or not he will get enough playing time. Fortunately, Baynes is the only traditional big on the team and they will need that option in certain situations.

The competition will make it impossible to maintain the role he had last season, but he is clearly committed to anything the Celtics need. Baynes has made it clear that he will sacrifice and do anything that is necessary to help this franchise, and do anything he can to make them a true championship contender.

Baynes is a steady veteran presence, and even if he is not able to get the playing time he deserves, Baynes will continue to be a part of this core and everything they have worked so hard to build.
