The Boston Celtics are parting ways with Abdel Nader

This is a move that everyone saw coming, and bringing Marcus Smart back took away any hope that Adbel Nader might be able to hold onto a roster spot. In the end, he was never able to prove he can have an impact on the NBA, and the Celtics cannot waste a roster spot waiting for him.

Nader had some decent moments but they were all at lower levels. He did enough for the Celtics to keep him around, but the Celtics do not see any way he can help at the NBA level.

Even when the Celtics were destroyed by injuries last year, he still could not do enough to distinguish himself. With the depth the Celtics have now, they have to pay more attention to how every single spot is filled.

More from Hardwood Houdini

Nader had solid potential as a wing, but never excelled at anything. The Celtics need their wings to have defenisve versatility and a trusted shot. Nader has shown none of that. Nader has often looked lost on the court, and is a liability far too often.

The Celtics will not carry weaknesses, and they are better off giving lower level opportunities to younger players, who still have not had the opportunities Nader had to prove his value.

The Celtics have a top to bottom roster that is more set and stable than most teams in the NBA, but they still want to explore as many options as possible. The Celtics see no future where Nader has any kind of impact, and they are not going to waste any opportunity they have to evaluate more talent, at any level.

Chances are you will not be able to expect anything from whoever gets those opportunities from Nader, but the Celtics do not have to be worried about that talent working out.

Next: Celtics always avoid Leonard type deals

They have their depth and they are ready to go to battle with players they know they can trust. Unfortunately, Nader was never going to be a trusted player for them.
