Danny Ainge is shutting down talk of any kind of blockbuster trade

When you have the reputation of trading that Danny Ainge has, you have to expect to be connected to any trade rumors. Right now, the Boston Celtics are one of the most talked about teams when it comes to a Kawhi Leonard trade, and that was after all kinds of talk about moving up in the draft.

Whether it is Leonard, or any other franchise changing superstar, Ainge announced that any kind of blockbuster deal is unlikely, even if they will continue to explore as many options as possible.

Ainge is always looking for value, and it cannot hurt to try and figure out what kind of deals might be available.

The Celtics, however, are not in a good position to make these kind of deals happen. Ainge is finally at a point where he does not want to blow anything with this roster up. The Celtics are keeping things in tact, because they know they have a special championship window right now.

These players deserve to have this season where they stay in tact, and no team is going to give Ainge good enough value in a deal to make it worth it.

You cannot put anything past Ainge, but when you loo a the things he has been saying in previous offseasons, compared to what he is saying now, and there is obviously a much different mentality with this team.

Ainge has done blockbuster trades in the past because the teams were not ready to contend. Ainge has been willing to blow things up, only because he knew the franchise needed something different to reach their ultimate goal.

Right now, with the top end talent they have, and the young studs behind them, with the best depth in the NBA, this is a true championship contender, and Ainge is not going to blow up a championship contender.

This is the first offseason in a long time when the Celtics have established continuity, and Ainge is making it clear that is the way they want to keep it.

At this point, even if the Celtics are talking to other teams, there is no trade rumor that can really be taken too seriously. The Celtics have too much to offer for a team to give them any value, and anything short of the deal of the century will not be good enough to prompt Ainge to blow up the core that has been built in such a special way.

People may love the idea of a player of the caliber of Leonard joining the Celtics, but there is no reason to take any risks with this core. The Celtics have way too much to lose to try and take any kind of chance, and that should mean a nice and quiet offseason for the first time in a while.
