Boston Celtics looking overseas at Brad Wanamaker
The Boston Celtics could be interested in going overseas to get Brad Wanamaker
The Boston Celtics are gong to have a completely different offseason, and should be avoiding the drastic changes that have come in recent years. The Celtics have an established core that they want to keep in tact, and are no longer picking high in the draft.
It will be impossible for the Celtics to get a player that transforms this team, without threatening everything they have already built. Even so, Danny Ainge is still going to be trying to get every improvement possible, and the Celtics are once again looking to get some help overseas.
After the success of last season, it is not a surprise the Celtics are going that way again. Daniel Theis had a truly stellar season for the Celtics, and Shane Larkin provided more value than anyone expected.

Now, the Celtics are looking at Brad Wanamaker, who is interested in getting a deal in the NBA this season (Via MassLive). Obviously, the Celtics do not have a money to play with, and that is even before making a decision on Marcus Smart.
The Celtics cannot expect their draft pick to contribute in their rookie season, and they cannot expect to be able to afford an impact free agent this offseason. Someone like Wanamaker can be that low risk decent potential option, that can contribute off the bench and provide some depth.
It is always difficult to gauge how well a player will translate over form Europe. but Ainge knows what he is looking for. He wants versatility and three point shooting. Wanamaker has good size as a guard, which means Brad Stevens should be able to use him on defense.
If he can bring some decent shooting, then Wanamaker will have a chance at minutes on this team. The Celtics have a great core of guards right now, but they will want to be prepared for anything.

How much money they offer him might have a lot to do with what happens with Smart, because their need for depth will change drastically depending on whether or not they resign him.
