Boston Celtics: Jaylen Brown is more valuable than any draft pick
If the Boston Celtics are looking at moving up in the draft, Jaylen Brown should not be involved in any trade
The Boston Celtics have entered the offseason and the rumors are already coming out. The most notable one has been from Sean Deveney stating that the Celtics like Mo Bamba, and could be interested in trading up for him.
In that piece, Jaylen Brown is mentioned as one of their trade assets. There is no doubt that the Celtics could get tremendous value for Brown. He brought his game to another level these playoffs, and has made it impossible to ignore how great he can become.
Who knows if Danny Ainge would even listen to offers, but Brown should not ever be brought into consideration for trading a draft pick. The top of this draft looks great, but Brown has absolutely blown away expectations, and there is a good chance no player in this draft will turn into the player he is.
The Celtics have been known to push for the future, and if they believe they can go up and get the best player in this draft, it would not be too uncharacteristic to try and make a play. Brown, however, should be untouchable if you are not involving an already established player.

Brown is one of the most intriguing young players in the NBA, and there is not a single player from this draft that you could expect to be anywhere near as good as Brown is right now. Keep in mind, Brown is just 21 years old, making him younger than both Ben Simmons and Donovan Mitchell. He is better right now than anyone thought he could be and has some of the most potential in the entire NBA to grow and develop.
His upside is out of this world, and he is the exact kind of player the Celtics want. A two way versatile wing that is growing into an elite defender while being a knock down shooter. He has already grown into the caliber of player that would warrant a high pick, and he has so much room to become so much more.
Trading Brown for any draft pick this season, including the number one overall, would be foolish for the Celtics. On top of the fact that it is unrealistic to expect any prospect to work out the way Brown has, they are absolutely in win now mode.
No matter who the Celtics could take at any point in this draft, they are not going to be able to have the kind of impact Brown will. With Brown and Jayson Tatum on their rookie contracts, and Al Horford still playing his best basketball, this could be the best window this core ever has.
Trading Brown for any draft pick would do a lot of damage to Boston’s prospects of winning a championship next season, and is unlikely to even improve their future potential.
Brown is a special player that has embraced Boston, and knows exactly what they are going to need from him. The Celtics want as many wings as possible, and there is no wing in this draft that should be taken over Brown.
Add on his relentless work ethic and complete disregard for any player in front of him, and Brown has all kind of intangibles that you cannot take for granted. He might be the fastest improving player in the NBA, and the significance of improving at this age should not be understated.
Keep in mind, Brown was not supposed to be able to shoot, and he is around 40 percent from three. He was supposed to be a liability handling the ball, but can be deadly while driving. Brown has exceeded expectations in areas that were supposed to be his strength, and has completely transformed what you think about his weaknesses.
Brown is too good right now and has too much intrigue in the future to think about trading him, and the last playoff run makes it a relatively easy decision.
At this point, there is no reason to believe that Brown is even being considered for trades. It is far fetched enough to think the Celtics would do anything to this core even to get an established star in the league, so a draft pick should be out of the question.
There is too much promise in this core to threaten it for any player in this draft. Brown shown too much to trust any prospect out of college more than him right now and in the future. He has more than earned his spot in this core, and no one should be worried about him being traded away.
