The Boston Celtics need to embrace all of their talent in order to be true contenders

The Boston Celtics are finally at a point where they have the high end talent to be true title contenders. The problem is that the standard to win in this league is still ridiculous, and just having top end talent is no where near enough.

With Brad Stevens at the helm, the Celtics should feel great about the position they are in. The being said, we have seen time and time again talent that simply does not end up working out. There are a lot of players who will want to have an impact, and it is not always so easy to bring everything together.

Keep in mind, the Warriors and the Rockets do not just have all time talent on their roster, they function with great purposes. Maybe a bit less so with the Warriors right now, but these teams know how they want to play, and use each other to bring out the absolute best.

Having all his talent come together has been one of the biggest strengths of Stevens, but that has only been with rosters that lacked top end talent. He has never had multiple players of top caliber, and that will be his biggest test this season.

More from Hardwood Houdini

Remember, it is not only about getting the best from Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving. They are the superstars, but the potential of this team is not unlocked with just them. You can be confident that Al Horford will make it work no matter what, because he is so sound and reliable in everything he wants to do.

The real test will be finding a way to get everything from these established stars, while allowing Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum to grow into their potential. If the Celtics want to compete with the best, they need Brown and Tatum as much as they need the other three established players.

The difficulty is that they are still developing. There will be situations where they might hold the team back in their struggles, but we saw how much better they can get when they are given there freedom and control to make those mistakes.

It will probably take quite a bit of time for this team to become a finished product. You are adding two players who will transform everything they want to do, and you have the youngest players on the team trying to figure out how they can have their best impact.

The key for the Celtics is making sure they are able to get the best out of all these players. That does not mean they need to be at their height of productivity, No one needs to be concerned about the kind of volume they have in any context, because embracing the help around them is how this team can topple the giants in the NBA right now.

The Celtics have the talent on the paper, but they need to embrace every single one of that top core, because it will allow them to function in a way that can compete with some of the most talented rosters that have ever been assembled.

Next: 3 offseason priorities

It is far too early to tell exactly what they might be looking like, but getting all these players to play together in a way that brings out something special from all of them is how the Celtics can truly contend for a title this season,
