The Boston Celtics should benefit from the first slow offseason of the Brad Stevens era

After one of the most significant roster overhauls in the history of the NBA last season, the Boston Celtics should finally have a relatively quiet offeason. You can never expect Danny Ainge to do absolutely nothing, because there are still decisions to be made.

That being said, Marcus Smart is the only real core player in question right now, and they do not have the space to bring in anyone that you would have to make large accommodations for. The Celtics may look for smaller pieces to help solidify some of the problems from last year, but all of the blockbuster talk will officially be over.

This will be the first time in his career that Brad Stevens is not going to have to completely change his approach because of a roster in constant flux. He knows the exact players that this team is going to embrace the most.

The core of this team is absolutely going to stay intact, and everything else is going to be done in support of that. None of these key players really have to worry about being shipped out, and they do not have another high draft pick to get another rookie like Jayson Tatum.

More from Hardwood Houdini

There is still some recovery time with the injuries, but this is going to be the most complete offseason the Celtics will have had under Brad Stevens. These players are already more comfortable together, and they will get the best preparation this core has ever seen.

The good news is that they are probably going to need it. They have to figure out what Tatum and Jaylen Brown are going to look like next season, because they were thrust into roles no one expected this season.

Then you have Gordon Hayward, who has played a grand total of one minute with this roster. It should not be too difficult for Stevens, but he  still needs to put in the work to make sure he gets the absolute best out of him, while not threatening anything that Kyrie Irving was doing last season.

The Celtics will have the highest standards and expectations in the NBA next season, and they need to use this off season to make sure they are ready to dominate right away. There is not going to be a chance at a learning curve for this team, because they are simply too talented.

The talent is there, but we have seen some of the most talented rosters in the NBA never work. Stevens ensures the Celtics know it will eventually come together in a great way, but it can be difficult to determine how long that will take.

With a full off season, Stevens will be going into this season in a better position than he has ever been in before. The Celtics will be in a great position to start the season strong. Keep in mind, these guys will have to continue to improve into the regular season, and the further they are to start the season the more deadly they are going to be.

Next: Depth can become biggest strength

It will certainly be a challenge finding a way to embrace all this young talent, while also getting the most out of their top tier talent. A full and quiet off season without all the changes we are accustomed to seeing will make sure Stevens has the time he needs to get what he wants from these players.
