Daniel Theis can be a very real part of the future of the Boston Celtics

Everyone can see what a great position the Boston Celtics are in after one of the craziest playoff runs we have seen in a while. They have young talent that is good enough to compete right now, while knowing they will add their two best players in Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward.

There are a lot of reasons to believe why the Celtics certainly have the top end talent and potential to be true title contenders, but you still need more to win a championship. Depth is always going to be huge, and you need strong players to be on the court at all times.

With all these players on rookie contracts, the Celtics are in a great position to have the best depth in the league to go along with that top end talent. Even if they have to go into the luxury tax, the Celtics are in a position to build a team with no true weaknesses, and one player we cannot forget about is Daniel Theis.

He was not a regular rookie because of his age, but Theis came in and had an immediate impact on both ends, while looking like the exact kind of big the Celtics are looking for. This team feels ready to contend, but there still are issues.

More from Hardwood Houdini

The front court depth could be a concern with Aron Baynes and Marcus Morris. They are getting older and did not have that dynamic of an impact. Theis came in and was a trusted shooter, and a borderline elite defender.

The Celtics were killed on the boards, and that is something Theis could immediately help with. They will be embracing as much small ball as anyone, and Theis is the exact kind of big they want in that situation.

Theis was a much more polished version of what they wished Semi Ojeleye and Guerschon Yabusele would become. Theis does not need to be a game changer, they have enough of that kind of talent.

Theis is the exact kind of player that you can trust in any situation. You want him to be on the receiving end of wide open threes, and you want him to be able to go out and defend three or four different positions. He fits into almost everything the Celtics want to do, and is the exact kind of player they need coming off the bench.

When you take into account how much better Theis could get after one season cut short in the NBA, and he can be a major part of this rotation. There is not going to be much room on that starting lineup, but Theis should be in line to be the first big off the bench, and that role is vital considering how few bigs they have.

The Celtics will be using a lot of wings and versatility, and you need bigs like Theis who can come in and help mitigate some of the problems that can create on the interior.

Theis is a great inside and outside defender, and that is arguably the most important thing you need to defend with Brad Stevens. When you think of the potential he has with the three point shooting, and Theis is a very real part of the future of this team, and continuing to get better should make him a crucial part of the future of this team.
