The Boston Celtics are running out of bodies, so Xavier Silas needs to be ready for some action

The Boston Celtics have announced that both Marcus Morris and Al Horford are out against the Utah Jazz with ankle injuries. It is hard to imagine the Celtics giving Xavier Silas a role so quickly, but he better be ready.

The bottom of Boston’s bench does not look too appealing right now, and even with Abdel Nader and Semi Ojeleye taking on a bigger role than they should, they still are going to need other players out there.

Unfortunately, Silas does not play in the front court, so these injuries do not open up as much room for him. That being said, they only have so many front court options, and they know the back court has to help make up for some of the undersized bigs.

More from Hardwood Houdini

Silas is a guard with size, and could be a better defensive option than Shane Larkin, considering how weak you have to expect the front court to be right now.

Ideally, Guerschon Yabusele can finally break out, and all these young players are able to carry the load without much help. Unfortunately, the Celtics cannot expect to ever get all these players playing well at the same time.

Right now, if you are anywhere near Boston’s roster you have to be ready to play. Not only that, but you have to be ready to take on a decent role, if you are able to be impressive when given the opportunity.

With the playoffs so close, the Celtics need to make sure they explore as many options as possible, because they have no idea how healthy they are going to be, even for the first round.

He might not be anything special, but Silas is at least an option right now, and if Brad Stevens can get anything decent out of him, then he could make a significant difference with the depth that he adds.

It is terrible that we have reached this point, but we need to take even the 10 day contracts handed out by the Celtics seriously, because they are running out of bodies to have available.
